Subject: Introduction & Welcome

Hi all,
Since I jumped off the deep end and started this list, at the suggestion of
Will Lee, I think I should get the ball rolling by introducing myself.
I've been riding motorcycles for 22 years, all Hondas and one lone BMW. My
current mount is a '94 VFR, a bike I consider the finest all around mc
produced today assuming you lean a bit towards sport riding. I've done
long tours, short hops, day-long sport rides, and almost broken my neck
with the VFR, and I can say without hesitation its the finest bike I've
ever ridden.

So, why am I fooling with a Harley mail list? I've planned a trip around
the United States during the summer of '97, 7 weeks and 13500 miles along
both coasts and both borders, to celebrate my 50th year on this earth. I
didn't want to live with the VFR for that long a trip so I started looking
around at touring bikes. Sport bikes should be short and sleek, but a
touring bike should be long, low, and comfortable. Wings, ST1100s, et.al.
are too plastic for my tastes. Magnas, Dynas, softies, et.al. are too
cruiser oriented although I know some folks do tour on them. Heck, some
folks tour on Ducati 916s, but not this fellow. Well, to make a long short
I fell in love with the Road King. Its a MOTORcycle, not a plastic cycle.
No lumpy, plastic faring, no unsightly tour trunk hanging off the back, no
CB/FM-AM/cell phone/fax machine etc. to distract one from the task at hand,
and that is riding down the road listening to the wind and watching the
world go by. For me, ridin's the thing. Always has been, always will be.

My Road King is not here yet, and won't be until the Spring of '97, but
that doesn't make me any less of a HD fan. I'm committed to supporting
this mail list for at least two years, and then we'll see how it has grown
or floundered as the case may be. It's your list not mine. Make the most
of it.

A bit about me... I'm 48 years old, single, and teach high school
chemistry. Being a teacher is great for motorcycling. I have summers off,
and being single can jump on my bike and ride just about anytime I choose.

I'm looking forward to hearing from others via the list.

Ride safe, have fun, be nice, and
practice random acts of kindness...

It's time to pay up or fold up, and I don't see any sense in waiting any longer for this ball to get rolling. There isn't enough traffic to justify an issue every quarter much less every week. I'd be glad to send anyone who wants to keep the list alive a copy of current subscribers email addresses. Otherwise, effective immediately RK Digest is a brief internet footnote. - -- ride wherever, whenever, forever...
