P.O.Box 999 Sturgis, South Dakota USA 57785 1-800-272-4712 605-347-4712 Glencoe is a full service, year-round campground, licensed by the State of South Dakota, located only three miles from Sturgis' famed Main Street. We have two full-hookup R.V. parks totalling 350 sites. Each site is provided with electricity, water and sewer connections. In addition to our R.V. parks, we have developed approximately 130 acres of shaded, creek camping. This area is available for tent camping, R.Vs vans, etc. This is a beautiful tree-covered area with toilets and water faucets distributed throughout the general camping area. Hard-packed gravel roads have been built to every section of the campground and are watered twice daily during the Rally to control any potential dust problem. We have installed concrete, permanent chemical toilet houses, much like you encounter in State and National parks. They are serviced and cleaned twice daily. There are also 24 hour showers, food service and picnic tables.
Glencoe in 1996

Personally I thought the Campground was pretty cool. Good food, hot showers and plenty of room. I think the "make reservations in advance" thang is bulshit. I showed up there with Capt'n Xaos and a couple of buds and had no problem finding a space. To bad they're gonna make a big deal about the tittie alley. It wasn't that much of a problem and is kinda like a tridition at Sturgis. Seeing how the cops frown pretty heavy in town this entertainment can only be found in the campgrounds. I'll prolly end up at another place cuz of this. jeffrey
The following is the letter I received from Glencoe:
Dear friends,
Happy New Year from all your friends at Glencoe! Hopefully, the holidays were good to you. As a past guest of Glencoe, you are receiving this complimentary update of what's happening at the campground for 1996 and registration forms if you are planning to attend this year's Sturgis Rally and Races. We hope you are able to make this year's Rally and if so, this information will be useful.
We are building another 100 picnic tables for 1996, giving us a total of 700. We also hope to build a fourth showerhouse, giving us a total of 80 showers. The plans for another showerhouse are still being developed at this time and may not be possible this year. We will also plant more trees this spring so our shaded are continues to expand.
Glencoe will be purchasing 400 cords of firewood in 1996, a 60% increase over 1995. Each year after the Rally we pick up many cords of firewood due to the excessive hoarding by some of the individuals. For that reason, regardless of how much we purchase, we are unable to guarantee there will be firewood available as the week progresses.
We again will be reserving Sections1,2, and 3 for motorcycles only due to the positive response we received regarding our efforts to insure separate camping accommodations for those riding motorcycles only. A permanent three (3) rail fence has been installed to guarantee there will be the motorcycle-only area.
Our biggest problem last year was keeping the low-lifes off the roads from blocking traffic. Glencoe never had this type of asinine behavior before 1990, and we don't intend to have it in the future. We have invested hundreds of thousands of dollars and have continuously made an effort to provide the best possible facility for you the biker. If this is the type of entertainment you come to the Rally for, and you do not appreciate the quality campground we have strived for the last 13 years, then don't come to Glencoe because we will not tolerate it any longer. For anyone not wanting to abide by this standard of contact, I have included a list (on the back of this page) of all the campgrounds in the Sturgis area. Please pick one.
Because of the numerous complaints we received concerning the above situation, we are forced to raise this years' camping rate by $15 per person so we can hire additional security to eliminate this dangerous and offensive behavior from our campground. Starting in 1996, anyone standing along the roads will have their wristbands removed and will lose their camping privileges at Glencoe. We will also not allow offensive signs or lights shining on the roads.
The concession stand will again be serving the best food bargain at the Rally. And as in the past, all Glencoe Campers will have access to the AHDRA All Harley Dragraces and two full days of officially sanctioned hill climbs.
The period your reservation covers for 1996 has been increased to fifteen full days, which includes July 29 to August 12,1996. We hope this information is useful and the registration forms help simplify making your reservation. We still accept checks, money orders, and Visa or MasterCard. We will again be limiting the number of campers we accept in 1996 to the same level as last year, so if your planning to attend, please make reservations because we did have to turn people away in 1995. Reservations are required for the R.V. sites as well. These reservations are separate and need to be made as soon as possible. They are going fast.
Please call or write if any additional information about camping or R.V. sites at Glencoe is necessary. Please feel free to use our 800-272-4712 number if we can be of further service.
Very truly yours,
Gary Lippold Glencoe CampResort
